why solidarity?

The Solidarity House is a collaborative space and activation presented by a growing coalition of purpose-driven media, narrative, and cultural organizations.

Building on over a decade of coalition work at Sundance, this gathering is designed to strengthen our collective capacity to imagine and build the future of independent storytelling. At a time when artists, funders, and platforms are rethinking their relationships to power, technology, and sustainability, The Solidarity House creates space for meaningful alignment—where imagination meets infrastructure, and solidarity becomes strategy.

To convene artists, producers, cultural strategists, and funders who believe that independent storytelling is essential to democracy, care, and creative freedom. Together, we will share research, surface challenges, identify opportunities for collaboration, and make commitments toward a more just media ecosystem.

JANUARY 23-25, 2026 — PARK CITY, UTAH — SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

We are living through a time of profound isolation—creative, economic, and ideological.

Across the independent film ecosystem, artists and organizations are navigating shrinking resources, heightened competition, and growing fragmentation. The very communities that have driven innovation—Black, Indigenous, and People of Color; LGBTQ+ people, women and gender-expansive artists; disabled and undocumented storytellers—are too often left to compete for visibility, funding, and validation in systems that were never designed for them to thrive. Solidarity is how we meet this moment—an active practice of linking arms across geography, discipline, and identity to turn competition into cooperation and scarcity into shared abundance.
